NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Second-seeded Washington & Jefferson women's volleyball suffered a 3-1 loss to third-seeded Bethany in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, Nov. 2, in New Wilmington, Pa.Â
The loss caps off an 18-10 season for the Presidents in 2018. The year was the W&J's fifth straight making a postseason appearance.Â
On the offensive end of the court,
Haley Nelson (Warren, Pa./Warren) led the Presidents with a team-high 11 kills.
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) was next on the Red & Black with 10 kills, while
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) and
Bridget Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) each finished with eight.
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was at the center of W&J's attack, as she assisted on 35 of the team's 47 kills.Â
Defensively, both
Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and
Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) logged a team-high 20 digs.
Julia Galbraith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) (15), O'Brien (13) and
Alexis Tomassini (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) (12) rounded out W&J players with double-digit digs. With 35 assists and 13 digs, O'Brien posted the 16th double-double of her junior campaign.Â
The duo of Lydic and
Morgan Jacques (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy) paced all players with five blocks. Eich finished the evening with two.Â
A few Presidents end the 2018 season as statistical leaders in the PAC. O'Brien paces the conference with 9.34 assists per set. Eich and Lydic sit back-to-back in hitting percentage, as Eich's .349 is first and Lydic's .291 clip is second.Â
