OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team opened the Oberlin College Holiday Classic with a 65-53 loss to the host Yeomen on Friday, Dec. 28.
Tonight's setback drops the Presidents' overall record to 5-7 on the year, while Oberlin improves to 5-3.
W&J went ahead in the first half tonight with a stellar defensive performance. The Red & Black held the Yeomen to 9-for-28 (32.1 percent) shooting from the floor, which included 11 misses from behind the three-point arc.
The Presidents, on the other hand, went 12-for-27 (44.4 percent) from the field and 4-for-7 (57.1 percent) from deep.
Zach Queen (Jeannette, Pa./Hempfield Area) accounted for all four of the made three-pointers in the half, as he finished with a half-high 12 points. His shooting helped W&J take a 32-28 lead into the halftime break.
Oberlin's offense came alive in the second half. The Yeomen improved their field goal percentage to 54.2 percent (13-for-24) in the stanza. This enhanced shooting allowed the home team to secure a 36-34 advantage just over three minutes into the half. Oberlin would not look back, holding the lead for the remainder of the game.
Queen finished the contest with a team-leading 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from three-point range to go along with two steals.
Nicholas Campalong (Sewickley, Pa./Ambridge) was next on the team with eight points in 14 minutes of action.

Okikiola Agbale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler). Jones tallied seven points and three rebounds, while Agbale logged four points and a team-high four boards.
The Presidents will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon, as they will take on Houghton at 2 p.m. to close out the two-day event.
