W&J swims to sweep of Bethany, picks up first PAC wins

BETHANY, W. Va. -- Both Washington & Jefferson swimming & diving squads picked up their first PAC wins of the season over Bethany on Wednesday, Dec. 5, as the men earned an 111-63 triumph and the women won 86-63. 

On the men's side, five Presidents posted wins in individual events. Leading the way was Colin Higinbotham (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) and Dean Kralic (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside), who won two apiece. Higinbotham took both the 50 free (21:84) and 100 free (51:05), while Kralic was victorious in both the 200 IM (2:09.74) and the 100 fly (56:32). 

The Presidents other individual winners included Zach Lauer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), Andrew Ivory (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars) and Jeremy Glasner (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown). Lauer topped the field in the 200 free (1:56.42), Ivory won the 500 free (5:29.57) and Glasner posted the triumph in the 100 breast (1:07.25)

For the women, Kimber Randolph (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), Marissa Whitby (Los Angeles, Calif./Eagle Rock) and Kiera MacWhinnie (South Portland, Maine/Waynflete School) all came out on top of individual races. Randolph was the women's lone double-winner, taking both the 200 IM (2:30.84) 100 fly (1:07.69). 

Whitby's victory came in the 50 free, where she posted a time of 34:03. MacWhinnie won the 100 back with a time of 1:09.17. Randolph, Whitby, MacWhinnie and Kaitlyn Ewing (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) also combined to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:03.70) and the 200 medley relay (2:17.84). 

Both Presidents' swimming & diving squads will return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 12, for a nonconference meet against Penn State Behrend.
