Presidents swept in three games at Connecticut College

Where: Connecticut College – New London, Conn.
Opponent: Grove City
Result: L, 7-6
 
How it Happened: The Washington & Jefferson women's water polo team opened its three-game weekend slate with a close 7-6 loss to Grove City at Connecticut College in New London, Conn. The Presidents and Wolverines both scored three goals in the first quarter before W&J scored once in the second to take a 4-3 lead into halftime.
 
Grove City evened the score in the third and proceeded to outscore the Presidents 3-2 in the fourth quarter to hand W&J the loss.
 
Top Performer: Paige Adams (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) scored three times in the game to lead the W&J offense.
 
The Rest: Marissa Whitby (Los Angeles, Calif./Eagle Rock), Aliya Abdelhak (Evanston, Ill./Evanston) and Lexie Gartner (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) all tallied one goal for the Presidents.

Where: Connecticut College – New London, Conn.
Opponent: Penn State Behrend
Result: L, 9-6
 
How it Happened: In game two at Connecticut College, the Presidents trailed Penn State Behrend 7-2 entering the final quarter. After giving up another Lions goal, W&J scored four straight goals to bring its deficit back to two goals but it was not enough as Penn State Behrend soon tacked on the final goal to finish off the game.
 
Top Performer: Adams scored three more times for W&J including another two-goal fourth quarter.
 
The Rest: Gartner and Macel Reising (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) also scored in the final quarter for the W&J, their first goals of the weekend.
 
Date: Sunday, March 11, 2018, 11:45 a.m.
Where: Connecticut College – New London, Conn.
Opponent: Carthage
Result: L, 13-6
 
How it Happened: The Presidents fell by a 13-6 score to Carthage in the third game of their weekend schedule at Connecticut College. 
 
Top Performer: Adams and Gartner both racked up two goals in the game, bringing Adams' weekend total to eight over three games and three goals for Gartner, to pace the W&J offense.
 
The Rest: Whitby and Abdelhak added one goal each to round out the scoring while Megan Arseneau (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) made three saves in goal, one in each of the first three quarters.
 
What's Next: The Presidents will travel to Grove City for their next game on Saturday, March 17, at 1:00 p.m. before returning home for Senior Day the following day to face Penn State Behrend (10:00 a.m.) and Caltech (5:00 p.m.).
