WASHINGTON, Pa. – The No. 3 Washington & Jefferson baseball team fell by a 10-0 score to NAIA No. 22 Point Park on Monday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.

The Presidents fall to 6-3 overall on the season.

The Pioneers scored once in each of the first four innings before putting up two runs in sixth, one in the seventh and three in the top of the ninth inning to finish the game.

W&J hitters combined for four hits in the game coming off the bats of
Mullen Socha (Independence, Ohio/St. Ignatius),
Mark Merlino (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford),
AJ Melvin (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) and
Evan Hannan (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon). Hannan's hit was the first of his career, a double down the right-field line in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Tanner Gaerke (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) got the start on the mound for the Presidents and went 4.0 innings in the losing effort.
James Trainor (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Garrett Harstine (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) followed by pitching two innings each while
Will Bowser (Burgettstown, Pa./Madonna (W.Va.)) and
Michael Zito (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg) were called upon to get the final three outs of the game.

The Presidents will return to action when they begin the 2018 RussMatt Invitational on Sunday, March 18, with a seven-inning doubleheader against SUNY New Paltz at 2:00 p.m. from Auburndale, Fla.
