W&J tripped up at home by Baldwin Wallace

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson baseball team suffered a 7-0 defeat to Baldwin Wallace in nonconference action on Thursday night, April 26.
 
The loss drops the Presidents to 21-11-1 overall this season while the Yellow Jackets improve to 24-9.
 
The Yellow Jackets scored first in the game with one run in the first and two runs in the second inning. Over the third to fifth innings, both teams were held scoreless by opposing pitching before Baldwin Wallace struck for three runs on two hits in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 6-0.
 
Baldwin Wallace scored its final run in the top of the seventh on two hits.
 
Five different Presidents had a hit in the game, led by Spencer Howell (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) who had a pair of singles. Dante Dalesandro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon), Mark Merlino (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and Luke Zahren (Ingomar, Pa./North Allegheny) all went 1-for-3 while Ryan Sciullo (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) had one hit in four at-bats plus a walk.
 
Ben Marsico (Bradfordwoods, Pa./North Allegheny) suffered the loss on the mound for W&J, allowing four earned runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings of work. Garrett Harstine (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) pitched the sixth inning and allowed one unearned run with two strikeouts. Mitchell Taufer (Washington, Pa./Bishop Canevin) followed by allowing one run in the seventh before Clay Martin (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Will Bowser (Burgettstown, Pa./Madonna (W.Va.)) pitched shutout eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
 
W&J will return to conference play when they host Grove City on Saturday, April 28, with game one of the doubleheader against the Wolverines getting under way at 1:00 p.m. following Senior Day festivities.
