WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson baseball team fell in a nonconference matchup with Point Park, 3-0, on Sunday, April 29.

The Presidents' overall record now sits at 23-12-1 after the loss while the Pioneers improved to 41-7 overall.

The Pioneers scored twice in the third inning on two hits and an error before adding the third and final run of the game in the fourth on two hits and an error.

Santino Platt (Pittsburgh, Pa./OLSH) got the start on the mound for the Presidents and pitched a perfect first inning before Tanner Gaerke (Plain, City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) took over for the next 3.0 innings. Gaerke allowed all three Point Park runs but just one of them was earned as the junior righty gave up four hits and struck out two hitters.

Nick Drake (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), Jansen Eichenlaub (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Garrett Harstine (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) pitched perfect fifth, sixth and seventh innings, respectively, before Mitchell Taufer (Washington, Pa./Bishop Canevin) allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth. Will Bowser (Burgettstown, Pa./Madonna (W.Va.)) closed out the game with a scoreless ninth, walking one and striking out two.

Ryan Sciullo (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) went 1-for-4 on the day, recording the lone W&J hit in the game on a two-strike, two-out single in the bottom of the first inning.

The Presidents will return to action on Wednesday, May 2, for a nonconference doubleheader at Mount Union. First pitch of game one is slated for 2:00 p.m.
