Presidents pound out 17 hits to eliminate Thiel, 8-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Top-seeded Washington & Jefferson fought off elimination with an 8-1 defeat of number three seed Thiel in Game D of the 2018 Presidents' Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at Ross Memorial Park.

Bryce Schnatterly (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) improved to 7-0 on the season by tossing 7.2 innings of one-run baseball, allowing six hits and striking out eight to match his career high. The victory was also the 22nd of his career, good for fifth by himself in program history.

Center fielder Ryan Sciullo (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) had his second career five-hit game, including a double, while driving in two and scoring twice. Designated hitter Mullen Socha (Independence, Ohio/St. Ignatius) also matched his career high with four hits, highlighted by his team-leading sixth home run of the campaign, a two-run shot.

Left fielder Dan Trettel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and third baseman Adam Jaworski (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) had doubles as part of their two-hit showings, with right fielder Dante Dalesandro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) also posting a multi-hit effort.

The Presidents will look to avenge their opening-day loss to fourth-seeded Saint Vincent with first pitch in the elimination game set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday (tonight). The game will be broadcast on the PAC Sports Network at pacstream.net.
