Presidents down Bearcats, 18-6; will play for third straight ORLC crown

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team used an 11-goal first half to defeat Saint Vincent, 18-6, and advance to its third-straight Ohio River Lacrosse Conference championship game.

The win marks the third consecutive season that the Presidents played, and defeated, SVC in the ORLC tournament. The two squads squared off in the finals in each of the last two seasons, but this year's semifinal match victory gives W&J a rematch against top seed and host Transylvania. The Pioneers snapped W&J's 21-match winning streak in the ORLC with a 10-7 victory on April 8 and will be making their first ORLC championship game appearance. Saturday's (May 5) title bout at Pat Deacon Stadium is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

Senior Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) scored five goals to lead all players, but, more importantly, reach 200 career goals. The senior, two-time defending ORLC Defensive Player of the Year now has exactly 200 career goals, tied for first atop the W&J record book with former President Courtney Schrock '11. Kallos added two assists for seven points, which gives her 88 on the season (56 goals, 32 assists), breaking her single-season record of 85 from 2016. Kallos now owns three of the top four single-season point totals in W&J Women's Lacrosse lore.

Kallos also pulled in 13 draw controls, one shy of her career high, to become the first W&J player to go over 100 in a season. She owns four of the top five single-season marks at W&J. In addition, the midfielder added seven ground balls and two caused turnovers against Saint Vincent.

Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) returned to the lineup to score four goals, and has recorded a hat trick in all 14 matches she's played in this season. Jenna Allen (Sanford, Fla./Seminole) added her first career hat trick with a three-goal effort, while Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) turned in four points on two goals and two assists. Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) found the back of the net twice as well for the victors.

Bobrovnikova chipped in five draw controls, while Miller had three ground balls. Allison Onslow (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Katherine Hooper (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) were second and third for the Presidents with five and four ground balls, respectively.

With 10 saves, sophomore goalkeeper Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) extended her single-season W&J saves record to 150 in 2018. She improved to 13-3 on the year in the process with her ninth double-digit save performance of the year.

W&J advances to the title game boasting a 13-3 mark, while the Bearcats conclude their campaign at 12-4.
