Zac Quattrone (White Oak, Pa./Serra Catholic) picked off two passes, including a 71-yarder returned for a score, in No. 15 Washington & Jefferson's 37-12 win at St. John Fisher.
Â
The victory evens the all-time series against Fisher at 2-2 as the Presidents swept this most recent home-and-home series against the Cardinals. It was also the 92nd season-opening win in the program's 127 years. Head coach
Mike Sirianni improves to 48-8 in the month of September and now has 140 career wins after the first game of his 16th season at the helm.
Â
W&J needed little time to light the scoreboard, forcing a St. John Fisher punt on the game's opening drive. The Presidents had a 23-yard reception by junior running back
Jordan West (Washington, Pa./Washington) and a 44-yard catch by senior wide receiver
Brandon Barnes (Hagerstown, Md./St. Johns) before West capped the six-play, 87-yard drive with a nine-yard jaunt to give W&J a 7-0 lead. The lead reached 10-0 before the end of the first quarter when junior kicker
Adam Napotnik (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) booted a 24-yard field goal with 1:41 left in the period.
Â
Both scores in the second quarter were strikes from Adams to Wolf, the first coming at 8:10 from 15 yards for Wolf's first career TD, 16-0. W&J then got the ball back just two plays into the ensuing drive when junior linebacker
Nick Getz (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) forced a fumble that was recovered by Quattrone around midfield. On the third play of that possession, Adams found a wide-open Wolf streaking down the left sideline for 46 yards to stretch the lead to 23-0 with 6:32 to play in the opening half, the eventual halftime score.
Â
Fisher got on the board midway through the third quarter, 23-6, but W&J marched 70 yards on eight plays the next drive before Wolf hauled in his second 15-yard TD of the game and third overall at 4:54, 30-6.
Â
SJFC headed down the field and pushed inside the W&J 10-yard line, but Quattrone ended the threat with his first interception off of a tipped pass in the back of the end zone.
Â
Quattrone sealed the game with his interception for a TD with just over 9:00 left in regulation, picking the ball off at the Presidents' 29-yard line and racing 71 yards untouched for the score, 37-12.
Â
Adams completed 13-of-20 passes for 286 yards and three scores, all of which went to Wolf. West topped 100 yards for the fourth time in his career, and the second-straight season against St. John Fisher, rushing 20 times for 106 net yards and a score. He also caught a pass for 23 yards. Sophomore running back
EJ Thompson (La Plata, Md./Thomas Stone) toted the rock 11 times for 74 yards in the win. Barnes posted two catches and 46 yards to finish second on the team in both categories.
Â
Quattrone had three of W&J'a four takeaways (two interceptions, one fumble recovery) and also made five tackles (four solo), including 1.0 for loss. Freshman cornerback

Mike Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Langley) posted 1.5 sacks, while senior defensive lineman
Brad Villa (South Park, Pa./South Park) notched a strip-sack. Sophomore linebacker
Cole Weston (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) led the Presidents with seven tackles, but six different teammates contributed six stops each.
