SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --
Rena Israel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) ran her personal scoreless streak to 210 minutes and
Rachel Buyan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) scored in the 47th minute to give Washington & Jefferson a 1-0 win at Division II Slippery Rock.
The victory marked the second win over a Division II school in W&J's program history and the first since Oct. 4, 2005, a 4-3 Presidents' decision against Seton Hill.
After a scoreless first period that saw six combined shots -- five of which were for the home squad -- Buyan scored off a deflection to the left of the cage at the 46:18 mark of play. It was one of just two shots in the second half, both for the Presidents.
Gabby Karr (White Hall, Md./North Hartford) tied for the game high with two shots and was the only player to place both on goal.
For Israel, it was the third shutout in her three starts this year. She recorded two saves, both in the first half, and keeps her goals-against average at 0.00 with a perfect 1.000 save percentage.
The Presidents improve to 4-0 on the season ahead of an Empire 8-opening match at Cameron Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 15 against Stevens at noon. The Rock drops to 3-1 this year on the heels of their first defeat.
