W&J men record victory over Hiram



HIRAM, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's swimming team picked up a decisive 120-77 victory over Hiram College in non-conference competition Thursday evening. The Presdident women dropped non-conference decisions to the host Terriers (101-88) and Franciscan (165-62). 

The W&J men's team picked up several first place finishes on the night. Leading the way was senior Zach Lauer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), who combined to register four wins on the night. Individually, Lauer was first in the 100 Backstroke (1:03.15) and the 200 Backstroke (2:22.95). The senior also was a member of the winning 200 Free Relay team, which posted a time of 1:47.89 and part of the quartet that touched the wall first in the 200 Medley Relay (2:02.48). 

Senior Jeremy Glasner (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) tallied three first place finishes. Glasner was first in the 200 Free (2:17.94), 400 Free (4:50.36) and the 200 IM (2:32.54). 

Freshman Dean Kralic (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) was first in the 100 Butterfly (1:02.06) and the 200 Butterfly (2:29.64). Freshman Andrew Ivory (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars) claimed a first place performance in the 200 Breaststroke (2:56.18). 

Individually, freshman Nick Belofsky (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) was first in the 50 Free, with a time of 26.51. Belofksy was also a member of the winning relay teams for W&J in the 200 Free Relay and the 200 Medley Relay. 

On the women's side, senior Kaitlyn Pawcio (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) led the Presidents with a pair of victories in the one-meter dives, with respective scores of 252.20 and 216.75. 

Freshman Kimber Randolph (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) finished first in the 200 IM (2:53.57) as well as tallying second place performances in the 200 Butterfly (3:08.22) and the 100 Butterfly (1:20.45) events. Freshman Jazmin Uhler (Murrieta, Calif./Chaparral) finished fourth in the 50 Free (33.31). 

Uhler, sophomore Kaitlyn Ewing (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon), Randolph and Pawcio were second in the 200 Free Relay (2:14.89). 

The win improved the W&J men to 3-3 overall, while the President women fall to 2-6 for the season. 

The Presidents host Grove City College for a Presidents' Athletic Conference meet on Saturday, Jan. 26. The meet, which starts at 1 p.m., will serve as Senior Day for W&J. Prior to the meet, W&J will honor Pawcio, Glasner, Lauer and William Preston (Salem, N.H./Bradford Christian Academy).
