W&J downs Waynesburg for sixth straight win

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's tennis team closed the regular season with a 7-2 win over Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon. 
 
The victory extends the Presidents' winning streak to six games. W&J finishes the regular season with a 6-1 record in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and an 8-5 mark overall. 
 
The Presidents swept through doubles play, picking up three decisive wins over the Yellow Jackets. 
 
The top team of sophomore Maya Krishnasamy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) and freshman Isabella Goldman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) cruised to an 8-1 victory at first doubles.
 
Senior Jade Annaldo (North Kingstown, R.I./Scituate) and sophomore Vanesa Hyde (Manns Choice, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) rolled to an 8-0 win at second doubles, while the senior tandem of Megan Berard (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Caitlin Shellhamer (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) picked up an 8-0 at third doubles. 
 
Krishnasamy won her eighth straight match at first singles, as the sophomore tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win. Goldman dispatched of her opponent at second singles, by recording a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Berard (6-3, 6-1) and Annaldo (6-1, 6-0) registered singles wins at the third and fourth spots, respectively. 
 
W&J will now wait for the PAC Tournament Quarterfinals. The match against an opponent to be determined will be held at the Swanson Tennis Center on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
