Presidents Battle to 1-1 PAC Tie with Waynesburg

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team tangled with Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg for 110 minutes and earned a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening.

The Presidents (3-7-3, 1-0-3) earn their sixth point of the conference season with their third draw in four PAC games.

Waynesburg struck first with a scoring tally on a corner kick in the 13th minute to grab an early 1-0 lead.

The Presidents managed several scoring chances over the next 25 minutes, but all three of their shots on goal were saved.

Junior Lexey Finney (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) finally broke through the Waynesburg defense, scoring her first collegiate goal in the 39th minute to knot the score at one, beating a defender off the dribble and blasting a shot past the goalkeeper.

Despite both squads notching first-half goals, neither team could score the rest of the way. W&J fired four shots on goal in the second half and one in each overtime but could not find the game-winning goal.

On the evening, W&J outshot Waynesburg 20-14 (9-7 SOG) and each team registered five corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Shayla Watkins (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) made six saves, all following the Waynesburg goal to preserve the draw.

Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) led the Presidents with four shots, two on goal. Grace Rangel (Bristow, Va./Patriot) and Lexey Finney each added two shots on frame.

W&J continues conference play next Wednesday evening at Thiel.
