Men’s Soccer Falls in Double OT to Point Park 3-2

WASHINTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team went down to the wire with Point Park in non-conference non-Division III action and fell 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

The loss is W&J's (6-7-2, 3-0-1 PAC) first defeat in three weeks, snapping a streak of five-straight games without a defeat. Point Park entered the afternoon 12-1 and with the victory sets a program record for wins in a season.

Jake Fetterman (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) and Dylan Mayanja (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) tallied the goals for the Presidents. Fetterman scoring in his second-straight game, Mayanja has now scored in four-straight contests. Junior Alvaro Viadas (Burgos, Spain) handed out both assists on the afternoon.

Point Park struck first with Wessel Rietveld cashing in on a free kick from 20 yards out in the 39th minute and the Pioneers carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. W&J's Ian Donlon (Latham, N.Y./Albany Academies) made four saves in the first half and kept the Presidents within one despite being outshot 13-1.

Viadas connected with Fetterman for the Presidents' first goal in the 55th minute and then set up Mayanja in the 58th minute to hand W&J a 2-1 lead.

Point Park found an equalizer in the 77th minute from beyond the 18 yard box. Neither team found the back of the net over the final 13 minutes and the game went into overtime.

The Pioneer's Emmanuel Ndayisenga seized his opportunity for the game-winning goal in the 105th minute, scoring on a breakaway.

W&J went toe-to-toe with Point Park despite being outshot 31-7 (14-2 SOG). Seven different players registered a shot for the Presidents.

After Donlon minded the net in the first half, Samuel Miller (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) played the final 59:55 of the contest and made seven second-half saves.

Saturday's game marked W&J's final non-conference action of the regular season. The Presidents resume PAC play for a pair of road contests in the coming week, starting with Thiel on Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
