Presidents and Titans Battle To 1-1 Tie

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team welcomed Westminster, the defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champions, to Alexandre Stadium on homecoming and earned with a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes that saw both teams' record six shots and two saves, Westminster began the scoring in the second half.

The Titan's Nick Iregui broke free along the right side of the penalty area and fired a low shot into the bottom left corner to hand the Titans a 1-0 advantage in the 61st minute.

Just over 10 minutes later, Gary Olson (Erie, Pa./North East) fired a cross from near the W&J bench along the left sideline that drifted beyond his teammates and into the opposite top corner of the net for his first collegiate goal.

Both teams had opportunities to find a go-ahead goal in the final 20 minutes of the first half as Michael Komaniak (Oakmont, Pa./Riverview) in the 79th minute and Colin Martincic (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) in the 85th minute had attempts turned away.

Samuel Miller (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) made several critical saves down the stretch of the second half. Recording three saves in the final 10 minutes of regulation, including a point-blank rebound shot that he tipped over the frame.

The only shot on goal in the first overtime was off the foot of Quinn Pickering (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) in the 95th minute, but it was turned away by Westminster's Ezra Cimino.

Westminster hit the crossbar and then was offside on a potential game-winning attempt in the second overtime, and the match concluded after 110 minutes as a 1-1 draw.

Westminster held a 20-16 advantage in shots, 8-7 edge in shots on goal and 8-5 lead in corner kicks.
