WASHINGTON, Pa. -- After serving as the interim head coach for the 2019 season, the Washington & Jefferson College has elevated Kendra Jones to head coach of the women's soccer program.

Jones served as the interim head coach for the team during the 2019 season. The Presidents finished 4-1-3 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and 6-9-3 overall this fall.

"I'm really excited about the challenges ahead and where we can take the program," Jones said. "We want to create a more competitive environment with the players we have returning and our upcoming recruiting classes."

W&J earned the No. 3 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament, where they fell 2-0 to eventual league champion Grove City in the semifinals. It marked the sixth straight season that the Presidents qualified for the four-team PAC Tournament.

"We are very excited to name Kendra Jones as the head coach of our women's soccer program," said Scott McGuinness, director of athletics. "Kendra will continue to bring energy, passion and professionalism in providing leadership for the talented women on our team."

Following the 2019 season, junior midfielder Marcy Saldivar (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) along with sophomore forward Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) secured All-PAC First Team recognition while junior defender Hannah Johnston (East Freedom, Pa./Central) picked up Second Team honors.

"We believe Kendra will positively impact our students on the field, while also empowering them to reach for their goals in the classroom," McGuinness said.

The women's soccer team received applause from the United Soccer Coaches for the fifth-consecutive year for the squad's academic excellence in 2018-19.

Johnston was also named an Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier this fall.
