GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team kicked off the 2019 season with a 21-5 road setback to nonconference foe Kenyon on Saturday, Feb. 16, in Gambier, Ohio.Â
Leading the way for the Red & Black today was
Pat Brunner (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) with two goals. The sophomore attacker scored once in both halves. Freshman
Alex Strain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) also had two points in his debut with one goal and one assist. Strain's goal came at the end of the first half on W&J's lone man-up score.Â
Also finding the back of the net were
Mark Mandak (Enola, Pa./Trinity) and
Pat Heidecker (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area). Mandak opened the game's scoring 1:02 into the contest, while Heidecker tallied W&J's final goal in the fourth quarter.Â
Rounding out the Presidents' point-scores were
Brendan Tribeck (Enola, Pa./Trinity) and
Pat Moeller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) with one assist apiece.Â
Leading the W&J defense was
Joseph Tritschler (New Kensington, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) with a team-high three caused turnovers.
Jake Duda (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was not far behind two caused turnovers of his own. Tritschler also picked up a team-high four ground balls. Â
Junior goalie
Noah Cohen (Hewlett, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) started and made 20 saves in 52:06. Freshman
Brody Alloway (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) came in for the final 7:54 and made two stops.Â
The Presidents will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 20, with a road bout against La Roche at 4 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa.Â
