W&J, Grove City set for PAC Tournament Semifinals showdown Friday night


WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's basketball team will face Grove City College on Friday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the Semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament in Latrobe, Pa. 
 
The second seeded Presidents (18-7, 13-3 PAC) will face off with the third seeded Wolverines (16-10, 10-6 PAC) at the Carey Center on the campus of Saint Vincent College.  
 
W&J swept the regular season series, claiming a 76-60 victory over the Wolverines at the College Arena on Jan. 16. The Presidents then downed Grove City by a 65-53 score in the regular season finale at the Henry Memorial Center last Saturday. 
 
W&J is led by senior standout Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), who leads the squad in scoring (15.4 per game), rebounding (8.0 per game), three-pointers made (42), steals (54), blocks (32) and minutes played (29.2 per game). Parker was recognized as the PAC's Player of the Week four times this season. 
 
Sophomore forward Alie Seto (Allison, Pa./Brownsville) has enjoyed a breakout season, averaging 13.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest. Seto has converted 48.4 from the field and 78.3 percent from the free throw line. Seto enters Friday's contest as the reigning PAC Player of the Week after dropping a game-high 20 points in Saturday's win over Grove City. 
 
Junior Kate Balcom and sophomore Jess Bowen make up the backcourt for the Wolverines. Balcom averages 13.7 points per contest while Bowen has tallied 12.4 per game for Grove City. The duo also excels defensively, combining to record 127 steals this season. 
 
Both PAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday will be covered by the PAC Sports Network (http://www.pacstream.net). The winner of the W&J/Grove City matchup will face the winner of the second semifinal between Saint Vincent/Thiel in Saturday's PAC Tournament championship game. 
 
Grove City advanced to Friday's semifinals with after posting a dominant 76-40 win over sixth seeded Westminster College Wednesday night. Eighth seeded Thiel College scored its second consecutive road victory in the PAC Tournament, eliminating fourth seeded Chatham University by a 75-70 score Wednesday night.
 
Admission to all PAC Championship Tournament games is $5 for adults and $2 for students, with students at PAC host institutions admitted for free with valid identification.
The winner of the PAC Championship Tournament will receive the league's automatic qualifying bid to this year's NCAA Division III Championship. The selected Division III Championship teams, as well as the first and second round site selections, will be announced Monday, February 25 at 2:30 p.m. (EST) on ncaa.com. First and second round games are scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 1-2.
