Men's Tennis tops Penn State Altoona, 8-1

ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory over Penn State Altoona in non-conference play Saturday morning at The Summit Tennis and Athletic Center in Altoona. 

W&J swept the doubles matches to take a quick 3-0 lead over Altoona. Nate Wang (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) and Sam Bellini (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mount Lebanon) tallied an 8-1 win at first doubles, while Stephen Mehlbaum (Sellersville, Pa. / Pennridge) and Max Perilstein (Glenside, Pa. / Cheltenham Township) recorded an 8-5 decision at second doubles. Josh Hnat (DuBois, Pa. / DuBois) and Ruchir Gupta (Ada, MI / Forest Hills Central) finished the sweep with an 8-4 win at third doubles. 

The Presidents won five of the six singles matches. Wang won 6-3 and 6-4 at first singles while Bellini claimed a 6-1 and 6-3 victory at second singles. Mehlbaum won 6-1 and 6-4 at the third spot. Perilstein (6-1, 6-1) and Hnat (6-0, 6-2) won at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. 

The win improves W&J to 5-1 overall this season. The Presidents host West Liberty University on Monday, March 25. Start time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
