W&J opens PAC play with 8-1 win at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team secured an 8-1 road victory over Thiel College to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play. 

The Presidents won all three doubles matches and recorded victories in five of the six singles matches to claim the victory over the Tomcats. 

Nate Wang (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Sam Bellini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) cruised to an 8-0 win at first doubles, while Stephen Mehlbaum (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and Max Perilstein (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham Township) did the same at the second doubles position. Josh Hnat (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) and Ruchir Gupta (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) concluded doubles play with an 8-4 win at the third spot. 

Wang eased to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles, while Hnat picked up an identical 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles. Bellini, Mehlbaum and Perilstein also registered straight set wins in singles play. 

The win moves W&J to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in PAC play. Thiel falls to 0-2 both overall and in conference. W&J hosts Geneva College on Wednesday, April 3. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
