WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's tennis team claimed its fourth straight victory, defeating Westminster College by an 8-1 margin in Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
The victory was the fourth straight overall for the Presidents, who improve to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The loss drops Westminster to 0-11 overall and 0-5 in league action.Â
W&J claimed all three doubles matches before winning five of six singles matches over Westminster.
Nate Wang (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and
Sam Bellini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) picked up an easy 8-0 win at first doubles, while
Stephen Mehlbaum (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and
Max Perilstein (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham Township) recorded an 8-2 victory at second doubles and
Josh Hnat (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) and
Ruchir Gupta (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) matched that with an 8-2 win at third doubles.Â
Wang, the reigning PAC Player of the Week, rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 victory at first singles. Bellini cruised at second singles, winning with a score of 6-0, 6-1. Mehlbaum (6-3, 6-1), Perilstein (6-1, 6-1) and Hnat (6-0, 6-0) registered straight set wins at the three through five singles positions.Â
W&J travels to Bethany College for another conference clash on Friday, April 12. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.Â
