STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team scored a season-high 25 goals in a 25-4 PAC win over Franciscan on Saturday, April 13, in Steubenville, Ohio.Â
The victory is the Presidents' first in PAC play this season, as they are now 6-7 overall and 1-3 in conference. Today's loss puts the Barons at 0-12 overall and 0-4 in the league.
The W&J offense got things going early, scoring three times in the first five minutes.
Benjamin Ward (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) had three points over this initial surge, while
Pat Heidecker (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) and
Alex Strain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) each had a goal.
In total, the Presidents finished the first quarter with eight goals. Strain and Ward led all players with three goals.Â
The second quarter featured much of the same, as W&J won the stanza, 8-1. Seven different Presidents found the back of the net in the second, with Strain being the only one to score twice.Â
After shutting out the Barons again in the third quarter, the Red & Black took the second half by a score of 9-3.Â
Ward led all 13 of W&J's point scorers with a career-high nine points. The junior attacker finished with five goals and four assists. Ward leads the Presidents with 49 points this year.Â
Strain tied his season-highs with eight points and six goals. The freshman is currently third in the PAC with 35 goals in 2019.Â
Sophomore
Brendan Tribeck (Enola, Pa./Trinity) tied a career high with six assists against the Barons. He finished with one-third of the Presidents' season-high 18 helpers.Â
Both
Joseph Tritschler (New Kensington, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) and
Nicholas Grosch (Sarasota, Fla./Butler) ended the day with a match-high nine ground balls. Tritschler also finished with a game-high tying four caused turnovers, tied with
Luke Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Kyle Teeter (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport). Grosch was a primary reason the Presidents help the time of possession lead today, as he won 17 of 25 faceoff attempts.Â
In goal, junior
Noah Cohen (Hewlett, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) picked up the win, playing 24:17. Both
Duncan Barbes (Bel Air, Md./Edgewood) and
Brody Alloway (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) appeared and played at least a quarter.Â
The Presidents will return to action on Thursday, April 18, with a road tilt against Bethany. The league bout is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
