WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team saw its seven-match winning streak snapped by Allegheny College in a non-conference match Thursday night at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
The visiting Gators defeated the Presidents by a 9-0 score. Allegheny won all three doubles matches to open the match.
Nate Wang (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and
Sam Bellini (Mount Lebanon, Pa./Mount Lebanon) came the closest to picking up a doubles victory for W&J, as the tandem fell by an 8-5 score at first doubles.
Both Bellini and
Max Perilstein (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham Township) battled into a third set tiebreaker in their respective singles matches but came up short of earning a point for the Presidents. Bellini fell 3-6, 6-3-10-5 score at the second spot while Perilstein lost 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 score at fourth singles.
W&J concludes the regular season with a 12-3 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The Presidents enter next week's PAC Championship Tournament as the top seed. W&J will open tournament play with a quarterfinals matchup against eighth-seeded Thiel College on Tuesday, April 23. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
