Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

W&J defeats Saint Vincent, 14-6, for second PAC win

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team held Saint Vincent to one second-half goal in a 14-6 PAC win on Saturday, April 6, in Latrobe, Pa. 

With today's victory, the Presidents improve to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the PAC. The Bearcats, on the other hand, fall to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in conference. 

W&J opened the game's scoring with a goal from Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) 1:06 into the contest. Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) earned the assist on the play. 

Following three goals from SVC, the Presidents retook the lead with a three-goal run of their own. Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) scored two of the goals, while Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had the third.

The Red & Black then scored the final three goals of the first half to take a 7-5 lead into the halftime break. LaRochelle paced all players with four goals in the first 30 minutes of action. 

The second half weighed heavily in the Red & Black's favor, as they outscored Saint Vincent, 7-1, to close out the game. Four different Presidents found the back of the net in the second stanza, securing a 14-6 for the road team. 

LaRochelle scored four times in the second half, giving her a career-best eight goals on the day. The junior attacker paces W&J and is third in the PAC with 37 goals this year. La Rochelle also tallied two assists during the victory. 

Bobrovnikova, Sherwood and Miller joined LaRochelle with multiple points on the day. Bobrovnikova had one goal and two assists, Sherwood logged one goal and one assist, and Miller tallied two goals. 

In cage, junior Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) made eight saves and tallied three ground balls in 60 minutes to pick up her third win of the year. After today, Maute is third in the PAC with a .513 save percentage. Defensively, Bobrovnikova picked up eight draw controls, four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Allison Onslow (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) tallied four ground balls and three caused turnovers. 

The Presidents continue league play on Tuesday, April 9, with a road tilt against Westminster at 6:30 p.m.
