WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to Shenandoah University Sunday afternoon in non-conference play in Virginia.
After a scoreless first quarter, the host Hornets cracked the scoreboard with with a pair of goals by Megan Stevens in the second quarter to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. SU added two more goals in the third quarter, getting a score from Taylor Hayes in the 42nd minute before adding a goal by Serena Farmer in the 44th minute of play. Shenandoah added its final goal with just eight seconds to play.
The Hornets out-shot the Presidents by a 20-4 margin and had a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Junior goalkeeper
Rena Israel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) suffered the loss in the cage. Israel made seven stops for the Presidents.
W&J (1-1 overall) returns home to face Denison University on Friday, Sept. 6. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cameron Stadium.
