FREDERICK, Md. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team dropped its final non-conference road game under the lights at Hood College 4-1.
Hood (7-1-2) fired six shots in the game's first 15 minutes. Sophomore
Samuel Miller (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) made a pair of saves to keep the Blazers off the scoreboard.
Hood's Jake Hynson handed the hosts a 1-0 advantage with a diving header in the 16
th minute from a looping cross from Chase Ross.
Neither team managed another attempt on target until the Presidents'
Alvaro Viadas (Burgos, Spain) fired a shot in the 44
th minute that was turned away by Hood's Isaac Coeto Jr.
The Presidents came out firing in the second half, attempting four shots (two SOG) in the first 10 minutes of the half and collecting a pair of corner kicks.
In the 56
th minute, the Presidents finally broke through.
Nicholas Maknoon (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) won a ball just inside Hood territory, dribbled forward and blasted a shot from over 30 yards out past the keeper and just inside the right post to tie the game at one.
The game remained tied for just over three minutes before Hood retook the lead. The Blazers' Chase Ross snuck a pass through the Presidents' backline, leading to a one-on-one opportunity for Christian Urbina who buried the eventual game-winning tally.
Hood added goals in the 70
th and 74
th minutes to push its advantage to 4-1, which stood as the game's final difference.
Miller played 90 minutes and collected four saves. Freshman
Colin Martincic (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) led the Presidents with two shots on goal.
As a team the Presidents outshoot Hood 18-17 and held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks. Hood posted a 8-5 advantage in shots on goal for the evening.
W&J hosts Allegheny Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Presidents kick off conference play next Saturday against Westminster.
