Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 non-conference decision at NCAA Division II Fairmont State on Saturday.
 
The Presidents fall to 1-1 on this season-opening weekend after defeating Pitt-Greensburg on Friday night.
 
Fairmont State won all three doubles flights and swept the singles flight for the team victory. Despite falling 7-0, the Presidents still won two sets and 36 games in singles play.
 
In doubles play, the No. 3 doubles pairing of seniors 
Megan Berard (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and 
Caitlin Shellhamer (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) went down to the wire with Fairmont State. The duo battled all the way to a tiebreaker, ultimately falling 8-7 (9-7).
 
In singles competition, 
Vanesa Hyde (Manns Choice, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) took the first set, but ultimate fell 0-6, 6-0, 6-2.
 
At No. 1 singles, 
Maya Krishnasamy (Ventura, Calif.) went to a tiebreaker against Fairmont State's top player, ultimately dropping the match 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.
 
W&J heads to Allegheny on Tuesday evening for its final non-conference tune-up before PAC play begins with Bethany on Thursday.
