WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming and diving teams concluded the home potion of their schedule with a dual meet against perennial Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) power Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions emerged victorious in both meets, winning 128-79 on the men's side and collecting a 119-50 victory in women's action.
Freshmen
Isabella Manzari (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and
Sarah Marshall (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) led the charge on the women's side with Manzari picking up two individual wins and Marshall adding one win and a runner-up showing.
Manzari came within three seconds of matching a season-best in 200 freestyle victory at 2:08.42. Marshall topped the AMCC's top breaststroker, Barbie Cessar, in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:12.59.
Manzari and Marshall both swam the 50 freestyle with Manzari taking first (27.12) and Marshall finishing second (27.19).
Marshall added another runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke just behind Cessar at 2:39.54.
Kate McKiernan (Columbus, N.J./Pennington) took third in the 100 freestyle (1:07.47) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:48.71).
For the W&J men,
Andrew Ivory (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars) and
Colin Higinbotham (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) had individual wins on the afternoon.
Ivory captured the meet title in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:26.47. Higinbotham sprinted to the top spot in the 50 freestyle (22.91).
Dean Kralic (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) was the runner-up in the 100 (59.60) and 200 (2:12.16) backstroke events. Higinbotham finished second in the 100 butterfly (56.89) and Ivory took second in the 200 IM (2:13.19).
Jacob Black (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) was third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.76) while
Mark Nikitine (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) was third in the 100 (52.28) and 500 (5:51.64) freestyles.
The Presidents took second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.37) and 200 medley (1:48.20) relays.
W&J travels to Franciscan next Saturday.
