Baseball Finishes Florida Trip Against No. 20 Webster

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team played its final game in Florida as the Presidents wrapped up the Russmatt Invitational with a 14-7 defeat to No. 20 Webster on Friday morning.

The Presidents played their third-straight ranked opponent and fell to 3-6 while Webster moved to 6-5.

The Presidents swatted a pair of home runs over the left-field wall at West Orange High School as Adam Jaworski (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) smacked a two-run homer in the second inning and Peter Kalinski (Washington, D.C./St. John's College) hit a solo shot in the fifth.

Webster built an 11-4 advantage thanks to five run outbursts in the second and fifth innings.

Nate Rush (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsly School) wacked a two-out two-run single in the seventh to bring the Presidents back within four, down 11-7 in the bottom of the sixth.

Despite the Red and Black placing five runners on base in the final three innings, the Presidents were not able to score again. Webster added three runs over the seventh and eighth innings to secure the 14-7 win.

Rush scored in the first inning on a wild pitch and Jaworski knocked his first collegiate home run in the second inning as W&J led 3-0.

Webster scored 10 of the next 11 runs in the game, sandwiched around Kalinski's fifth-run home run.

Ryan Pallone (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) brought in Adam Moore (Olean, N.Y./Archbishop Walsh) with a sacrifice fly before Rush plated two more President runs in the sixth.

Adam Morris (South Park, Pa./South Park) made a diving catch in left field to end the fifth while centerfielder Evan Sante (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) robbed an extra-base hit with a diving catch in the sixth.

W&J used seven pitchers in the contest, six of which were seniors. Kamden Kautz (Oro Valley, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge), Nolan Kosh (Belle Vernon, Pa./Yough) and Matt Benicky (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) each pitched an inning without allowing an earned run.
