WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team battled for 110 minutes against visiting Waynesburg University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in a scoreless double overtime draw.
W&J had an early scoring opportunity as
Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) blasted a shot in the third minute from close range. However, Waynesburg goalkeeper Autumn Blair, recorded one of her three saves in the match. W&J's second best scoring chance came in the 96th minute of play when
Peyton Behling (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) blasted a shot from 15 yards out.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) tallied a season-high 10 saves to keep the Yellow Jackets off the board. Additionally, strong defensive efforts by
Courtney Actis (Bechtelsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) and
Courtney Crivelli (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) kept Waynesburg from finding the back of the net. W&J has recorded shutouts in three of its five conference matches this fall.
Crivelli, Behling and Brown led offensively as they each recorded two shots each for the Presidents.
The Yellow Jackets had an 19-7 advantage in shots and 10-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Presidents are now 5-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in PAC play. The tie moves the Yellow Jackets to 5-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in league matches.
W&J will return to Alexandre Stadium for their final home game of the regular season. W&J will host Franciscan University for Senior Day. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
