WASHINGTON, Pa. --
Maya Krishnasamy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) and
Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) recorded a pair of wins to guide the Washington & Jefferson women's tennis team to a narrow 5-4 victory over visiting Grove City in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
W&J opened the match by taking two of the three doubles contests. Krishnasamy and Pulicherla secured an 8-3 victory at the top doubles spot while
Bella Goldman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and
Pooja Potluri (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo) edged Grove City's duo by an 8-6 score at the No. 3 doubles position.
Krishnasamy improved her career record to 43-7 overall with a straight sets (6-0, 6-2) win at first singles. She is now 32-2 all-time in PAC singles matches.
Pulicherla faced a little more resistance at No. 2 singles but earned a straight set victory by a 6-2, 6-4 margin. Pulicherla remains unbeaten in singles play, as the freshman improved to 9-0. Goldman swept her way to a victory at No. 3 singles, as the junior won by set scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The victory improved the Presidents to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the PAC. The victory coupled with a Westminster loss to Franciscan secured the No. 2 seed for the Presidents in the upcoming PAC Tournament next week.
