Men's Swimming defeats Bethany in 2021-22 home opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's swimming team won 10 of the 12 contested events as they rolled to a 150-44 victory over Bethany College in the 2021-22 home opener for the Red and Black on Saturday afternoon.

 The 200 yard medley relay team of Nathan Smith (Fort Defiance,Va./Fort Defiance), Andrew Ivory (Gibsonia,Pa./Mars), Dean Kralic (Beaver Falls,Pa./Riverside), and Colin Higinbotham (Denver,Pa./Cocalico) kicked off the afternoon by taking home first place by nearly 11 seconds. Ivory, then went on to win the 1000-yard freestyle just one event later clocking in a time of 11:31.19.

Smith, Higinbotham, and Ivory all picked up two individual wins for the Presidents. Smith took home first in the 100 and 200 yard backstrokes with his times of 58.90 and 2:15.22. Higinbotham secured the 50 yard freestyle with his time of 22.16 and the 100 yard butterfly with his time of 55.22. Ivory picked up first in the 200 yard breastroke (2:29.51) in addition to his 1000 yard freestyle (11:31.19). 

Nick Belofsky (Aurora,Ohio/Aurora), Matt Allgeier (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area), and Warren Huang (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills) all took home the gold in one individual event. Belofsky won the 100 yard freestyle with his time of 55.25, Allgeier won the 100 yard breaststroke in over five seconds with his time of 1:17.05 and Huang picked up the 200 yard butterfly with a 2:31.32. 

Smith, Ivory, Belofsky, and Higinbotham ended the meet by winning the 400 yard freestyle relay by over 20 seconds (3:39.57).

W&J returns to competition on Saturday, October 30 when they host PAC opponent Westminster at Henry Natatorium. The meet is slated to start at 11 a.m.
