WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's swimming and diving team won their 2021-22 season home opener Saturday afternoon against Bethany. The 183-21 win over the Bison marks the Presidents seventh consecutive win over Bethany.
W&J touched the wall first in all 11 events Saturday afternoon. The relay team of
Amanda Graves (Irwin,Pa./Penn Trafford),
Sarah Marshall (North Wales,Pa./North Penn),
Ainsley Huang (Portola Valley, Calif./Summit Prep), and
Isabella Manzari (Venetia,Pa./Peters Township) started off the afternoon by winning the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.49.
Graves,
Kimber Randolph (Greensburg,Pa./Hempfield), and
Molly Nielsen (Erie,Pa./Harbor Creek) each won two individual races for the Presidents.
Graves took first in the 200 yard freestyle by nearly eight seconds with a time of 2:08.94 and by over three seconds in the 100 yard freestyle with a time 57.31. Randolph took home the gold in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:50.65) and the 400 yard IM (5:33.83). Nielsen recorded a 26.52 in the 50 yard freestyle and 5:38.35 in the 500 yard freestyle, earning her first place, respectfully.
During the first diving session,
Taylor Weyrich (McMurray,Pa./Seton LaSalle) opened up her sophomore campaign by winning the 1-Meter. Weyrich placed a final score of 237.65, 76.65 points in front of W&J's second place
Alexis Griner (Valrico,Fla./Bloomingdale). Additionally, Weyrich won the 3-Meter Diving during the second session, helping register points for the Presidents.
Marshall, Huang, and
Taylor Newton (Olyphant,Pa./Scranton Prep) each picked up one individual win for W&J. Huang won the 100 yard back in 1:08.76. Marshall touched first by over five seconds in the 100 yard breaststroke clocking in a time of 1:13.23 and Newton won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:17.89.
W&J returns to Henry Memorial Natatorium next Saturday, October 30 to host PAC opponent Westminster. The meet is slated to start at 11 a.m.
