W&J's season ends in PAC Tournament Semifinals

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team surrendered four goals during an 11-minute stretch in a 4-0 loss to Westminster College in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals Tuesday evening at the UPMC Sports Complex.

The loss snapped W&J's season-best five match winning streak. The Presidents end their season at 10-8-2 overall.

It appeared the match would head into halftime scoreless as the two teams played through a back and forth first half. However, a foul just outside the box gave the hosts a direct kick from close range. Julia Redilla capitalized on the chance, as she found the back of the net with just 19 seconds remaining before halftime.

The late first half score seemed to deflate W&J, as the Red and Black allowed three goals over the first 12 minutes of the second half. The hosts doubled the lead when Natalie Vilcheck tallied a second score just 22 seconds into the second half. The Blue and White scored in the 54th minute and again in the 57th minute to finish off the Presidents.

W&J recorded a pair of solid scoring changes. The first of which came when freshman midfielder Peyton Behling (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) registered a shot on goal that was saved in the 22nd minute. Sophomore midfielder Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) missed wide right of the goal from 15 yards out in the 84th minute of action.

The Presidents were out-shot by a 23-7 margin. Both teams recorded a pair of corner kicks, all of which came in the first half of play.

Junior goalkeeper Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) recorded 10 saves in 90 minutes of action in net. Freshman midfielder Olivia Olsen (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) paced W&J offensively with two shots.
