Women’s Lacrosse rolls to 2-0 with win over Saint Vincent

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team turned in another dominant showing as the Presidents defeated Saint Vincent 19-4 to move to 2-0 on the season at Alexandre Stadium on Saturday.
 
Nine different player recorded at least one point while seven players had at least three points on the day.
 
Midway through the first half, W&J built a 6-1 lead. The Bearcats trimmed the President advantage to 6-2 with 14:14 left in the half. The Presidents reeled of five-straight goals to end the first half with Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) scoring with nine seconds remaining in the half to put W&J up 11-2.
 
The Presidents opened the second half with five consecutive goals to trigger a running clock and put W&J ahead 16-2 with 12:05 remaining in regulation and cruised to the 19-4 victory.
 
Sophomore Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) racked up five points with three goals and two assist to lead W&J.
 
A trio of freshmen in Sadie Firman (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union), Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) and Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) all tallied four points. Firman and Jenkins each had two goals and two assists. Uhler had three gols and one assist. Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) scored four goals, caused two turnovers and had two draw controls.
 
Heck scored three times and Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) had a goal, two assists and six draw controls.
 
Becca Ghion (Sutersville, Pa./Yough) had a goal and Paige Howe (Bowie, Md./St. John's) recorded an assist.
 
Sam Casile (New Kensington, Palum) had three caused turnovers and two ground balls and Sam Louis (Oakdale, Pa/South Fayette) had two CT and two GB.
 
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) made six saves for the Presidents.
 
W&J heads to Thiel next Saturday.
