WASHINGTON, Pa. --
Claire Sauerland (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) tallied a career-high 13 kills and hit .370 to lead the Washington & Jefferson volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Franciscan University in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
W&J won in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22. The win is the third straight to the Presidents, who move to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in PAC play.
The Presidents did great work defensively in the match, as they racked up 71 digs as a team. Four Presidents recorded at least 10 digs.
Madison Simpson (Washington, Pa./Chartiers Houston) led the way with a team-high 18 digs and added three service aces.
Sophia Sacriponte (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) tallied 14 digs,
Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) had 13 digs and Sauerland added 11 in addition to her offensive prowess.
Alexis Tomassini (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) tallied a game-high 32 assists and four service aces.
Lauren Gill (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) registered three service aces and two solo blocks.
W&J returns to action on Wednesday, March 31 when they host Thiel College. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
