Women’s Soccer falls to Chatham

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team dropped its home opener 2-0 to Chatham on Saturday afternoon.

The Presidents fall to 0-2-1 while Chatham moves to 3-0 on the season.

Chatham scored once in the first half and once in the second half to secure the victory.

The Cougars scored from distance in the 16th minute off the foot of Paxton Steffy and in the 62nd minute on a chaotic sequence in the box that ended with Morgan Anderson finding the back of the net.

The Presidents out-shot Chatham 21-14 on the afternoon and both teams fired nine shots on goal.

W&J earned a penalty kick in the final minute of the first half, but McKenna Lewis' (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) attempt at the bottom right corner was stopped by a diving effort from Chatham goalkeeper Tyler Colburn.

W&J attempted six shots on goal in the second half, compared to one for Chatham. However the Cougars emerged with the only goal in the game's final 45 minutes.

Lexey Finney (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) had four shots with one on goal. Marcy Saldivar (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) and Erin Herock (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) each fired two shots on frame.

Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) made seven saves in net for the Presidents.

W&J travels to Waynesburg on Tuesday evening for a 7:00 p.m. game.
