LATROBE, Pa. --
Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) and
Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) combined for 10 goals and
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) recorded seven saves and eight ground balls in a dominant 18-5 victory at Saint Vincent on Sunday afternoon.
Saint Vincent opened with an early 2-1 lead after four-plus minutes. However, W&J responded with nine of the next 10 goals to take a 10-3 halftime lead over SVC. Labovitz and Effland accounted for the final five W&J goals of the first half. The Presidents remained in control in the second half, as they outscored the Bearcats by an 8-2 margin over the final 30 minutes. Five different Presidents scored in the second half.
Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) scored the initial goal of the second half and the final tally of the game as well.
Labovitz filled the stat sheet with five goals, an assists and 19 draw controls. Effland tallied five goals and an assist to match a game-high six points. Uhler scored three goals and added an assist and two caused turnovers.
Sadie Firman (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) and
Lina Crowley (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School) scored two goals apiece.
Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) picked up four ground balls to go along with her goal and an assist.
W&J held significant advantages in shots (43-17), shots on goal (34-12) and draw controls (21-3). The Presidents were successful of 14 of 18 clear attempts.
The Presidents improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in PAC play. Saint Vincent sits at 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
W&J hosts Thiel College on Wednesday, April 21. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium.
