Women's Soccer rolls to 4-0 victory on Senior Night

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team posted a dominant 4-0 victory over Geneva College on Senior Night at Alexandre Stadium Thursday night.

Before the match the Presidents honored their seven seniors: Lexey Finney (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), Grace Rangel (Bristow, Va./Patriot), Hannah Johnston (East Freedom, Pa./Central), Alie Seto(Allison, Pa./Brownsville), Erin Herock (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton), Marcy Saldivar (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) and Brianna McGowan (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory).

The senior class had plenty to celebrate on the field during the 90 minutes of game action. Finney opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when she took a pass from Herock and sent it into the back of the net. A little more than 10 minutes later, Izzy Saloom (Ligonier, Pa./LigonierValley) collected the ball, raced past the defense and sent a shot past the Geneva goalie for her first collegiate goal. W&J carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Herock and Hahn helped the Presidents double their lead just minutes into the second half. Herock tallied her first collegiate goal, scoring off an assist from Hahn in the 51st minute. Just two and a half minutes later, Hahn sent the ball into the back of the net, as the speedster beat the defense and blasted the ball past the goalkeeper. Hahn's score gave the Presidents a commanding 4-0 advantage. W&J continued its offensive pressure over the final 40 minutes as they nailed down the victory.

W&J held advantages in shots (21-7), shots on goal (8-5) and corner kicks (4-3). Finney posted a game-high five shots while Hahn tallied four shots.

After battling through injuries throughout her collegiate career, Herock shined on Senior Night. She tallied a goal and an assist in the victory to pace the W&J offensive efforts. Hahn added a goal and an assist as well. Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) registered four saves as she posted a clean sheet in 90 minutes of action in net. It was the fourth shutout recorded by Hipkins in six matches this season.

W&J (2-2-2) travels to Grove City College for a conference match on Saturday, April 24. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
