Late goal allows Grove City to edge W&J, 2-1

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Grove City College on the road Friday evening.

The Presidents and Wolverines were locked in a battle throughout the evening. A late goal in by Hardin Hunter the 80th minute was the difference to give the home team the win. W&J had a few chances late in the game but could not score the equalizer.

The late goal by Hunter broke a 1-1 tie. Grove City opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a goal by Jeffrey Biddle. W&J answered a little more than 13 minutes later when McKinley Joseph (Stamford, Conn./King School) scored off a pass from Thomas Davidson (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) in the 38th minute.

Both teams registered 10 shots in the contest. Grove City placed four on goal while W&J had three on goal. The Wolverines held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.

Jayden Da (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) led all players with four shots, two of which were on goal. Samuel Miller (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) made two saves in 90 minutes of action in goal.

W&J closes the regular season with a 6-2-1 conference record. The Presidents will enter the PAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed. Grove City will likely be the No. 2 seed, which would mean the teams would rematch on Tuesday, April 27 in Grove City.
