STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team saw its 2020-21 season come to a close Tuesday after when they lost 6-3 to host Franciscan University of Steubenville in the Presidents' Athletic Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Presidents fell into an early 3-0 hole after dropping all three matches in doubles play.
W&J split the six singles matches with the Barons.
Nate Wang (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) concluded a fine collegiate career with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Franciscan's Gary Pierre at No. 1 singles.
Another senior,
Sam Bellini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon), registered a victory at No. 6 singles. Bellini won by scores of 6-2, 6-3 over Franciscan's Luke Conrad.
James Gunn (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) rallied for a third set tiebreaker victory at No. 4 singles. Gunn defeated Aidan Howard by a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 score.
W&J finishes the spring at 1-6. Franciscan improves to 5-3 overall. The Barons will play Grove City in Friday's PAC Semifinals.
