WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team shut out Thiel College by a 9-0 score in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match on Wednesday afternoon at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
The win improves W&J to 3-2 in conference play. Thiel drops to 1-5 in league matches.
W&J battled through competitive doubles matches at each flight. The tandem of
Maya Krishnasamy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) and
Libby Conlon (Renfrew, Pa./Knoch) earned a hard fought 8-7 (7-4) victory at first doubles.
Bella Goldman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and
Lisha Chadda (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) won by an 8-6 margin at second doubles. The duo of
Victoria Wilson (Butler, Pa./North Catholic) and
Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) edged their opponents by an 8-6 score at third doubles.
Krishnasamy and Goldman rolled in singles play at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Wilson won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot while Kennedy picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4. Conlon won by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 at the No. 5 spot. Chadda scored the victory at No. 6 by a 6-1 and 6-2 score.
W&J travels to Grove City on Wednesday, April 14. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
