Rally falls short as Men's Lacrosse drops PAC match at Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. --  The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team suffered a 15-13 road loss at Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Saturday evening.

W&J finishes the regular season with a 3-5 overall record and a 2-3 mark in PAC play.

The Presidents jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind goals from Alex Strain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair), Brendan Tribeck (Enola, Pa./Trinity) and Sam Snider (Morgantown, W. Va./University). The host Bison countered with the final three goals of the first quarter to even the score at 3-3 after 15 minutes.

A pair of scores by Strain, which included an unassisted goal with 20 seconds left in the second quarter would give W&J a narrow 7-6 halftime lead.

Bethany took control of the match in the third quarter. The Bison scored six of the seven goals during the third to take a 12-8 edge into the fourth quarter. Bethany built upon that momentum to tally the first three goals of the fourth quarter to stretch its lead to seven (15-8) with 11:03 to play.

W&J scored the final five goals of the match but fell short in its attempt at a comeback. Strain and Reilly Oliverio (Carlisle, Pa. / Trinity) combined to tally all five goals in the fourth for the Presidents.

Strain finished with nine points (7 goals, 2 assists) to lead the way offensively. Ronin Keane (Medford, Mass./Arlington Catholic) picked up a team-high nine ground balls while Grant Allison (Venetia, Pa./Carson Long Military Institute) picked up eight. Luke Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Oliverio each caused four turnovers.

Brody Alloway (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) got the start and made 18 saves in goal.
