WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team stepped out of conference play when they took part in the Ginny Hunt Classic, which is being hosted this weekend by the College of Wooster. The Presidents dropped four-set contests to the host Fighting Scots and Bluffton University.
Wooster 3, W&J 1 (15-25, 25-22, 8-25, 20-25)
The Fighting Scots and Presidents split the first two sets in the opener. Wooster claimed the first set by a 25-15 score before W&J bounced back to secure a 25-22 victory in the second set. Wooster closed out the victory with a dominant 25-8 victory in the third and a 25-20 win in the fourth set.

Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) and freshman outside hitter
Kaitlyn DeLauter (Marysville, Ohio/North Union) led W&J with seven kills and six kills respectively against the Fighting Scots. Sophomore middle hitter
Lizzie Carmichael (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) added six kills and two service aces.
Senior setter
Alexis Tomassini (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) registered 22 assists and 11 digs.
Bluffton 3, W&J 1 (23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 12-25)
The Beavers earned narrow wins in the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-21. W&J then edged Bluffton 25-21 in the third set to send the match to a fourth set. The Beavers rolled by a 25-12 score to secure the match victory.
Carmichael produced a season-high and match-high 16 kills. Junior outside hitter
Claire Sauerland (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) recorded a season-high 13 kills and added 15 digs. Delauter and Blough chipped in eight kills apiece.
Tomassini tallied a season-high 42 assists against the Beavers.
Sophia Sacriponte (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) led a group of five Presidents with double-digit digs, as the junior finished with 17 digs.
W&J travels to Saint Vincent College for a PAC match on Thursday, Sept. 23. Start time is slated for 7 p.m.
