WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A goal just before halftime in the 42nd minute was the difference as visiting John Carroll beat the Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team by a 1-0 score Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.
The Blue Streaks scored in the first half of the game, but were not able to score again as W&J's defense was strong in the second half.
Kayla Daugherty (Prsopect, Pa./ Slippery Rock Area) and
Courtney Actis (Bechtelsville, Pa./ Boyertown Area) were stout defensively throughout the game for W&J.
The visitors goal came from Bella DiCicco with the assist from Taylor Wohleber. John Carroll held the advantages in shots (15-9) and corners (3-2) throughout the whole game.Â
W&J's closest opportunity for a goal came from a
Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland) header towards the net after a
McKenna Lewis (Hershey, Pa./ Hershey) free kick was denied.
Brown led W&J offensively as she registered five shots.
Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./ Wilmington) added two shots for the Presidents, while Lewis and Daugherty each registered one.Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./ Canon-McMillan) got the start in net and recorded three saves while surrendering one goal. Junior
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./ Butler) played the final 45 minutes in net and recorded two saves for the Presidents.
W&J returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 29 to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The Presidents will host Grove City College. The scheduled start time is 6Â PM.Â
