WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Junior midfielder
McKinley Joseph (Stamford, Conn. / King School) scored a late goal and assisted the go-ahead goal goal in the second half to help the Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over the Gators of Allegheny Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.
The win improves the Presidents to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Gators fall to 2-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in PAC matches.
The Gators got on the board first with some early offensive aggressiveness which allowed Cam Kaminski to score in the sixth minute of play.
The Presidents responded with a goal in the 30th minute of play by sophomore
Nolan Agostoni (Greensburg, Pa. / Latrobe), which was assisted by
Jason Moleiro (Rocky Hill, Conn. / Rocky Hill). The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1.
Parker Byas (Columbia, Md. / Mount Saint Joseph) broke the tie in the 77th minute of play, scoring off an assist from Joseph that gave the Presidents the lead for good. Joseph read the Gators defense and found Byas for a tight goal as he barely squeezed the ball past the goalkeeper.
W&J would tack on an insurance goal in the 82nd minute of play when Joseph found himself free to score on a breakaway. The Joseph goal gave W&J a 3-1 lead with less than nine minutes to play in the match.
W&J would hold the advantage in shots (20-6) and shots on goal (8-3). W&J attemped all four corner kicks in the match. Agostoni would lead W&J in shots (5) and while
Parker Byas led the Presidents in shots on goal (4).
Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) earned the win in goal after playing all 90 minutes and recording two saves.
