NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College swimming & diving teams opened up this weekend with a dual meet Saturday afternoon against Westminster College. The host Titans took both the men's and women's portions of the meet.
The W&J men were led by freshman
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio / St. Charles Prep) who placed first in both the 500 freestyle (5:15.68) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:03.75).
Senior dual-sport athlete
Alex Lee (Los Angeles, Calif. / Eagle Rock) placed first in the 100 freestyle (24.02) while finishing second in the 50 freestyle (52.80).
Freshman
Melvin McRae (Lillington, N.C. / Overhills) also competed in his first dive in his collegiate career in the one-meter dive and posted a score of 125.47.
The men's also took first in a relay, being the 400 freestyle relay, as Miller,
Garrett Apuzzo (Cheswick, Pa. / Springdale),
Esteban Sanchez-Sink (Lansing, Mich. / East Lansing), and Lee posted a time of 3:41.44.
On the women's side, freshman
Madison Trunzo (Elizabethtown, Pa./Cedar Cliff) tallied a score of 185.55 in the one-meter dive to give W&J nine diving points.
Molly Nielsen (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) placed first in the 500 freestyle (5:45.35) and second in the 50 freestyle (26.69).
Along with the men's, the women's also took first in a relay, being the 400 freestyle relay as well as Nielsen,
Audrey Kough (Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg),
Taylor Newton (Olyphant, Pa. / Scranton Prep), and
Morgan McGuire (Friedens, Pa. / Somerset) posted a combined time of 4:14.63.
W&J returns to competition on Saturday afternoon when they head to Indiana, Pa. for a meet with Chatham and Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
