GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Third-seeded Grove City scored two second half goals to break a scoreless halftime tie and defeat the sixth-seeded Washington & Jefferson by a 2-0 score in Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference women's soccer quarterfinal round at Grove City's Don Lyle Field.
W&J finishes its season at 5-6-6 overall. Grove City (11-6-1 overall) advances to Tuesday's semifinals where they face second-seeded Franciscan University of Steubenville. Saturday's win was the ninth straight for the Wolverines.
Grove City tallied seven of the eight shots during a scoreless first half. Things remained scoreless until Karly Keller got Grove City on the board in the 63rd minute. The goal was the first of the season for Keller, who scored off assists from Rachel Sullivan and Britta Lagerquist.
Laquerquist sealed the victory for Grove City when she scored with exactly five minutes remaining in the game. The goal was the 10th of the season for Lagerquist, who leads the Crimson and White in scoring.
The shutout was the fifth of the season for the Wolverines, who out-shot the Presidents by an 18-3 margin. Grove City held an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal and tallied all six corner kicks in the match.
