WASHINGTON, Pa. -- For the third time this season, the Washington & Jefferson volleyball team beat the Franciscan University of Steubenville, and this time it counted in the Presidents' Athletic Conference standings.
The Presidents swept the Barons for a second-straight meeting, as the Red and Black won by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22 in Saturday's matchup at Salvitti Family Gymnasium. The previous two meetings this season between the two schools were "non-conference" matchups.
Four Presidents finished with at least eight kills as the Red and Black piled up 40 kills as a team.
Lizzie Carmichael (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) recorded 11 kills and hit .350 percentage.
Claire Sauerland (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and
Faith Fetsko (South Park, Pa./South Park) finished with nine kills apiece while
Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyerdale) smacked eight kills with no errors and a .471 attack percentage.
Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) racked up 35 assists. Defensively,
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) tallied a match-high 29 digs and added four assists.
W&J travels to Saint Vincent on Tuesday evening for another PAC match. The Presidents and Bearcats will battle at 7 p.m. at the Carey Center in Latrobe.
